Catch 2 & Quitby Mike Ward at the Smith Mountain Striper Club | June 5, 2018 Anglers will be seeing some new signage at the boat ramps on SML and elsewhere around the lake. The SMSC has adopted a best practice policy of “Catch 2 and Quit” for the warm water months (typically early/mid-June - mid-October) Striped Bass do not survive release well in water temps above the upper 70’s, so catching & releasing a bunch of fish is as bad as keeping many past your limit. Help us all protect the Striper fishery by practicing “Catch 2 and Quit” during these Summer months - and then return to the practice of Catch & Release once the cooler water returns! If your fishing itch still needs scratching, try switching over to chasing white perch as a part of the 2018 SMSC Perch Jerk competition or chase warm water fish that can tolerate warm-water release.
